Inspiration comes from a wide variety of sources. For the Midnight Series I realized that during a tour of Axel Vorvoort’s chateau and art gallery (housed in an old oil refinery) I was taking in image after image of wall textures in my head. These came out in a variety of small square acompositional paintings.
I still dread the white pristine surface that will be transformed. There are no rehearsed markings to start one off. And yet tentative marks are made, and slowly layers are built up, and colours developed, and pictures are made. It's a kind of magic.
