A picture lives by companionship expanding and quickening in the eyes of the sensitive observer. It does by the same token. It is therefore a risky and unfeeling act to send it out into the world. Abstract painting is abstract. It confronts you. There was a reviewer a while back who wrote that my pictures didn’t have any beginning or any end. He didn’t mean it as a compliment, but it was. It was a fine compliment…
A lot of times I play with the colours; and what I do with them is to mix them up or pervert them to the point, where they almost lose their identity in relation to the name that they are given, because we give colour different names like blue, black, red – but there are many colours that are on the edge of these categories and these are the kinds of colours that I tend to use.
